Back In the Saddle

Back In the Saddle

Two years after my last post, I went to Knappelskär with Gavin once again. This time I had swapped the Samyang MF 14mm f/2.8 for a Laowa 15mm f/2. Sacrificing 1mm in focal length which is about 1 second in shutter speed, using the NPF Rule, going from 18.3s to 17.1s but the increase in light that I can capture is certainly worth it. The difference between f/2 and f/2.8 is that I can capture twice the light at the same shutter speed.

The below photo is shot on the 25th of August, 2022, at 22:46 CEST.

Milky Way towards south west south

Shot with the Sony α7 ii using the Laowa D-Dreamer 15mm f/2 lens mounted on the Feisol CT-3301 with a Sirui K-10X ballhead.

Focal length: 15mm
Aperture: f/2
Shutter speed: 15 seconds
ISO: 3200

I went with 15 seconds for the shutter speed because that’s the maximum amount of time PhotoPills told me I could use without getting any star trails. I also wanted to keep the ISO at a maximum of 3200 to get a slightly cleaner photo compared to what I’d get at ISO 6400.

I’ll try to get out again, and the mid of August looks promising. Just need to pray to the Weather Gods for clear skies.
